Corruption and Ethnic Cleansing in Iraq

Thing look increasingly bleak in Iraq as terrorism continues unabaited and infighting between Sunnis and Shias grows.

According to the Sunday Times:

Eyeballing Katrina Dead

Cryptome has a small assortment of the kind of pictures the US goverenment doesn't want media to take. Luckily, even mainstream media such as Time Magazine are ignoring the Bush administration's attempt at press censorship.

FEMA's Role in the US has an interesting article on FEMA's role in the US and on the federal response to Hurricane Katrina.

Weird World

Right now, in Vancouver, there's a guy in the building next to where I work throwing stuff from his balcony and screaming... this is because the cops have had the building cordoned off all day, with a hazardous materials crew, doing some kind of raid of the building (which is low income housing).

My guess is they want to chalk the building up as some sort of social hazard so developers can get it in time for the 2010 Olympics.

The Big Squeeze

Globalization has led to the "squeezing" of nearly everyone, on all levels, as global capital finds itself in a position of high leverage over suppliers of goods and services. Unprecedented communication and transportation technologies allow global capital to rapidly change suppliers when desired (with many consulting firms offering services to facilitate this process).

Safe Car-Driving! A world premiere!

I received an email from a friend I have not met yet. The subject of the email made me curious... "safe car-driving! A world premiere":

We shall present in the IAA Sept.2005 our ELREST as a novel product in the world market as a result of years of research. All ergonomic variables that affect driving have been taken into account in its design.
The present design is suitable for aproximately 75 % of current vehicles.

Let the Real Looting Begin

Reuters has issued a story detailing how friends of Bush the Younger are positioned to get their hands on billions of US taxpayer dollars though New Orleans reconstruction contracts.

Congress has already appropriated more than $60 billion in emergency funding as a down payment on recovery efforts projected to cost well over $100 billion.

Lack of NOLA Emergency Response Led Doctors to Kill Patients

With the lack of emergency response in New Orleans, doctors felt they were forced to make the decision to "put down" patients, rather than subject them to the violence of the looters or death by starvation.

According to one emergency official, William 'Forest' McQueen, "Those who had no chance of making it were given a lot of morphine and lain down in a dark place to die."

Because euthanasia is illegal in Louisiana, and The Mail on Sunday is protecting the identities of the medical staff who have come forward.

The Passion of the Blackwater

Blackwater is a company what gets paid to be soldiers when the US government runs out of guys and ladies for combat. There are Blackwater guys in Iraq, and now also New Orleans!

In this day and age, though, you can't just pick up the gun and get paid. It is a Global Market and you have to be able to sell your ideas! And everyone knows that the best way to sell your idea is through presentation of Powerpoint!
