Three years after asking permission to inspect the Guantanamo Bay prison, the UN is finally being allowed, although it will not have access to the prisoners themselves.

The US is likely trying to quell renewed interest in the prison caused by a hunger strike that started in August and is being carried out by 26 prisoners that the US is force-feeding using tubes.

As a result of pressure from the Republican's conservative base, Harriet Miers has withdrawn as a nominee to the US Supreme court. CIA, Backed by Whitehouse, Wants to Be Able to Continue Torturing

Torture, it seems, is essential to the CIA. Republican Senator John
McCain wrote an amendment to a $440 billion military spending bill that would
ban "'cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment' of any detainee held by the
United States government". The senate approved it, despite the threat of a
presidential veto.

Iraq: Main Oil Pipeline Bombed, Oil Production Already Low

Iraq's oil production has fallen to its lowest point in a decade. Industry analysts are blaming poor project management and bad pumping practices, as well as the prevelance of outdated equipment. Before the war, 2.9 million barrels/day were being produced. Production is approximately 700,000 barrels/day below pre-war levels, with 200,000 barrels/day of the shortfall blamed on the more than 200 attacks made by insurgents on the oil production infrastructure since June 2003.

I surmise the sun is wounding me

With its sharp malignant rays

I surmise the stars are healing me

I am the deity of dark cosmic space
