The Supreme Court previously ruled that military tribunals are not legal.
The tribunals promoted by Bush will pay no heed to the right to a fair trial, allowing the use of "hearsay and coerced testimony and for secret evidence". These tribunals will, in effect, allow the US to arbitrarily sentence foreign nationals to death with no real evidence. A number of planes and two Black Hawk helicopters will be deployed there for border patrols. 730 kilometers will be patrolled for drug smugglers, illegal aliens, and terrorists. According to US Customs and Border Protection spokesman Mike Milne, "they will fly missions along the border, to prevent terrorist and terror weapons from coming into the U.S." Canadian Government Defies CourtsEven though Canadian courts have ordered the government to stop, the federal government claims it will continue to deny a passport to Abdurahman Khadr, a Canadian citizen who is the son of a suspected al-Qaida financier.
The court declared that Khadr, who has never been charged of any crime, deserves "fairness and legitimate expectation owed to all Canadian citizens". Source: Canada.com |
